10-year-old dies in wreck with semitruck on I-10 West near Chaffee Rd.; traffic cleared

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Update 6:10 a.m.: Traffic on I-10 west is now flowing normally.

Original Story: The Florida Highway Patrol said a crash involving a semitruck on I-10 Tuesday night claimed the life of a 10-year-old boy.

The crash happened around 8 p.m. Tuesday night, but as of Wednesday morning, all lanes were still closed on I-10 west and traffic was being diverted to SR-23.

Drivers can take US-90 west as an alternate route.

FHP said a semitruck driven by Anthony Lumpkin overturned while heading east on I-10 after entering the grass median “for reasons still under investigation.”

As the semi slid into oncoming traffic on I-10 west, it hit a minivan head-on driven by Releia Warren, who was seriously injured, according to the crash report. 10-year-old Eli Warren, who was also in the van, died in the crash.

FHP said charged are pending in the crash.
