House fire in Arlington leaves 1 person, 1 dog dead

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A person and a dog are dead after a house fire in Arlington Monday, according to the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department.

Crews received a call from a neighbor about a fire at a home in the 3800 block of Wayland Street at 6:30 a.m.

JFRD said that person began banging on the door of the house after seeing a car parked in the driveway.

Firefighters arrived within four minutes and saw smoke and when entering the home, they saw flames coming from the kitchen area.

Crews searched the home and found one person near the kitchen. JFRD said that person died.

Two dogs were also pulled from the house. One of the dogs died, the other was taken to a veterinarian.

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office’s homicide unit is investigating along with the state fire marshal.
