JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Police are investigating a shooting that happened Wednesday morning right across the street from the Regency Square Mall. The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said two people were sent to the hospital.
Neighbors Action News Jax spoke with were just finding out about the news.
“It’s kind of scary knowing that somebody did a shooting right here when my fiancé is at work and I have to come out knowing. Oh goodness that’s a little close to home,” Breanna Berry said.

Officers told Action News Jax reporter Alicia Tarancon it happened just after 1:30 a.m.
Police at the substation at the mall heard gunshots from the intersection of Atlantic Boulevard and Monument Road.
When they went to check it out, they found a dark-colored car across the street in front of the Ford dealership, with a victim inside who had been shot.
JSO told Action News Jax that the victim was taken to a nearby hospital and is not expected to survive.
“It’s pretty obvious that they target this car because of how many times it was shot,” said Sgt. Ed Bawroski, with the sheriff’s office.

Investigators said a second car was seen leaving this scene, so they followed it.
After they pulled that car over for a traffic stop on Beach Boulevard and Cortez Road they found another shooting victim.
The victim was taken to the hospital and is expected to survive.
Police tell Tarancon they were interviewing four others that were inside that car.
Berry lives in the area and she says there’s always kids that play nearby.
“There’s a Chuck-E-Cheese here. They need to put a little more security around, especially for the sake of the children coming out and playing here with how close that crime was,” she said.
Tarancon also checked with three nearby businesses for surveillance video but was told they didn’t have any.
Action News Jax contacted JSO to see if anyone is in custody related to the shooting.
No arrest have been made and it is still an active investigation, JSO said.
