JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — One person is dead following a crash early Monday morning.
The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said before 6 a.m., a driver of a moped was traveling eastbound in the 8000 block of Merrill Road, just west of Hartsfield Road.
While trying to make a lane change, the driver struck a curb and hit a concrete pole. Crews with the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department responded to the crash and pronounced the driver dead. JSO said the driver was a man in his mid-30s. He was not wearing a helmet.
Police said no other cars were involved in the crash. The area was blocked for hours while the traffic homicide unit conducted an investigation.
