New Jacksonville VA clinic to replace existing facilities

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. —

President Donald Trump announced at his Jacksonville rally Thursday that the White House has approved a $46 million lease for a new veterans' health care clinic in North Jacksonville.

There are currently three outpatient Veterans Affairs clinics in Duval County, including one on Jefferson Street, Southpoint Drive, and University Boulevard.

According to a spokesperson for the North Florida Veterans Health System, a new facility will replace the Southpoint and University facilities.

The new facility, which President Trump said will be built in North Jacksonville, will be approximately 164,054 square feet and include 1,150 parking spaces.

In a statement to Action News Jax, the North Florida Veterans Health System said, “The project will allow VA to enhance primary care, mental health, and expand onsite Radiology, Optometry and Audiology services it currently provides in the three existing locations. The multispecialty rooms included in the project are a critical component for expanding women’s health services and telehealth, among other specialties. The project also will include domiciliary space for Veteran residential care in the Jacksonville area.”

Col. Len Loving is the CEO of 5 Star Vets in Jacksonville. The facility helps veterans in need get back on their feet with job training, schooling, and health services. He told Action News Jax there’s a gap in veterans' healthcare and this announcement addresses the need, especially in North Jacksonville.

“It’s going to be more convenient for them. And from what I understand, it’s going to be a state of the art facility,” he said. “Jacksonville is one of the true places that sailors and other service people like to come.”

A spokesperson could not share any specifics on location or a timeline at this time. Rep. Michael Waltz spoke on 104.5 WOKV, and said it could take a few years.
