TacoLu closes indefinitely after employee tests positive for COVID-19

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Jacksonville Beach’s TacoLu has joined a growing list of restaurants having to close due to having an employee test positive for COVID-19.

Tuesday, Action News Jax was at the restaurant interviewing the owner, Don Nicol, about his to-go only service. We were there when he got the test result and closed immediately.

“We did just get some tough news,” Nichol said.

Nicol told his staff an employee tested positive after some co-workers were at a party Sunday night.

“I feel like I won this huge battle since March because we never closed, we stayed open, we didn’t fire anybody,” Nicol said. “To get your knees swept from under you is kind of a drag because we’ve been busting it for all these weeks and being careful and it’s just too bad.”

TacoLu isn’t alone. The following businesses also told Action News Jax they were closed Tuesday for either positive tests or to clean in an abundance of caution: Tavern, The Wreck, Cruisers, Catullo’s, Jax Beach Brunch Haus, Mellow Mushroom, Angie’s Subs, Dance Salsa Jax.

As Action News Jax has been telling you, also at the beach, Lynch’s Irish Pub just reopened. It closed when customers reported positive cases after a visit earlier this month.

Nicol just hopes to be back open soon.

“Keep your fingers crossed for us, and for Catullo’s, and Angie’s, and Lynch’s, and all these guys and we’re doing our best, and we want to get this beach back to normal,” Nicol said.
