Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis is throwing in the towel on trying to pronounce Hurricane Isaias properly.

Isaias, which is pronounced “ee-sah-EE-ahs,” is the Spanish form of the name Isaiah, which is what DeSantis said he is opting to call the storm from here on out.

“I don’t know how to pronounce this, because it’s not normal,” DeSantis said Thursday. “I’m calling it Isaiah. You guys can call it what you want. I know that’s now how you pronounce this, it’s something else but it’s weird and I’m just going to keep butchering it for the next 72 hours. And I’d rather just be that - so I’m calling it Isaiah.”

DeSantis made the comments during a news conference about a Florida appeals court tossing parts of a grand jury report on alleged misuse of taxpayer money surrounding Hope Florida.

He called it “the biggest judicial smackdown I have ever seen.”

DeSantis is supposed to give an update on Florida’s preparations ahead of Isaias at 2:30 p.m. You can stream those remarks live by clicking the link below.
