CLAY COUNTY, Fla. — A suspect, identified as William Lee Newham, escaped near the Orange Park Medical Center on Christmas has been captured by police, according to Clay County deputies near the medical facility.

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office announced Wednesday morning that there was an active investigation. The agency released the following statement:
Early this morning a deputy escorted a suspect arrested for retail theft. The suspect who was medically cleared from the Orange Park Medical Center was able to break free from our deputy and escape on foot.
A perimeter was immediately set up and the suspect was re-apprehended and transported to jail.
There is an active investigation near the Orange Park Medical Center. Deputies are on scene investigating.
