JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A taskforce created to tackle violent crime in Jacksonville requested more time and money to make a difference.
Cindy Hensley said she sees Jacksonville’s crime problem first hand while driving for Uber.
She described, “I’m all over the city and I mean I’ll pull up on places where there’s just been a crime.”
The grandmother said violence seem to be spreading.
“The crime is everywhere. People say oh the crim is in this part of town, or oh the crime is in this part of town. I just laugh and say that’s not true. It’s everywhere.”

In January Action News Jas was at the first meeting for the Task Force on safety and crime reduction.
City leaders insisted the 47 members were focused not on research, but on action.
Local families said they were skeptical.
Action News Jax dug through minutes from meetings and discovered, many times, members appeared to be spinning their wheels.
One document showed minutes couldn’t be approved because, “most members had either not received them or had not had the chance to read them.”

In May, Chairman Mark Griffin requested the committee become permanent.
A report sent with the request outlines the areas they want to focus on, and admits ‘ the problems that have always been there still exist.’
Hensley said she’s waiting to see boots on the ground.
“If they were there, if they were around – I mean it just maeks more sense,” she explained.
Council President Aaron Bowman told Action News Jax he filed the continuation legislation.
