PHILADELPHIA, Pa. — The mother of Jordan Davis spoke Tuesday night at the Democratic National Convention.
Lucia McBath is the mother of Jordan Davis, who was shot and killed an arguement of over loud music in November 2012 in Jacksonville.
Everyone in the arena gave a standing ovation to McBath and the other women known as the Mothers of the Movement.
Action News Jax reporter Samantha Manning was on the delegate floor as they spoke. The people all around her were listening closely to their words, some even got visibly emotional at times.
The mothers talked about an issue that was part of a bigger theme on Tuesday night, social justice.
The Pittsburgh police chief talked about respecting police officers while also embracing criminal justice reform.
The crowd often broke out in applause, chanting "Black lives matter" and some saying "All lives matter." However, some of the most emotional points of the night came when the mothers of the movement spoke: the mother's of Sandra Bland, Trayvon Martin and Davis.
“I still wake up every day thinking about how to parent him, how to protect him and his legacy. How to ensure that his death doesn’t’ overshadow his life,” McBath said.
McBath said Hillary Clinton has been by her side.
“Hillary Clinton isn’t afraid to say that black lives matter,” McBath said. “She isn’t afraid to sit at a table with grieving mothers and bear the full force of our anguish.”
