JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office is still working to determine if a trained police service dog that escaped and bit three people in the Windy Hill area will return to service.
JSO says during the altercation, the dog was stabbed and required medical attention. It is now recovering from surgery. Its return to service will depend on its recovery.

Action News Jax spoke with a neighbor, named Howard, who described what he heard Saturday night.
“It was vicious,” he said. “I heard all this yelling and stuff. It sounded like a murder case.”
He said, “I don’t want to see the dog get put down, but they do need to be held accountable for it. This was really bad.”
The three bite victims received non-life-threatening injuries.
The incident is under administrative investigation, according to JSO. It’s working to figure out how the dog got out of its housing area and into the neighborhood.
