American Airlines

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — An American Airlines flight that was headed from Miami to Gainesville was forced to land in Jacksonville on Sunday night after crews were unable to communicate with ground crews at the Gainesville airport about the safety of the runway.

The flight was scheduled to land in Gainesville at 10:44 p.m. and there were 44 passengers on board Flight 3483, according to an American Airlines media representative.

Passengers who wanted to return to Gainesville were given vouchers to stay overnight in Jacksonville.

After the overnight delay, the flight landed Monday morning in Gainesville, about 12 hours later.
