Police still seeking teen suspect in school bus shooting

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Police say they need your help finding a youth accused of shooting at a local school bus, injuring two teenage girls inside.

Investigators have been looking for 16-year-old Edgar Robles for more than four days now.

Ayana Sherman is still recovering in the hospital and undergoing therapy. Shakayla Singleton is out of the hospital, but what happened Thursday is still replaying in her head.

We've learned someone on the bus saw Robles as the shooting was about to happen.

"They seen the guy standing there and when he went to reach in his pockets. They was just telling everybody to get down and that's when the bus driver was about to stop but that's when he just floored it to get the kids out of harm's way," said Shacoby Green, Shakayla Singleton's mother.

Seconds later, Green says she got a frantic call from her daughter.

"She said, 'Mom I've been shot.' My mind just went blank at the time I didn't know what to do," said Green.

Shakayla spent less than 24 hours at UF Health before she was free to go home to her family Friday. We captured exclusive video of her and her family getting into their car to leave the hospital.

Shakayla's face was bandaged up, but her mother said she was offering emotional support as her daughter deals with the physical wounds.

"I just keep telling her and keeping her lifted saying no matter what you're blessed and still pretty," said Green.

Even being home isn't comforting because, we're told, Shakayla has seen the alleged shooter in their own neighborhood.

"I really wish they would find him as soon as possible because I know there are nights now we can't even sleep in the house right now," said Green.

Green said her daughter will never get back on that same bus route again. She also said Shakayla will finish up her school year at home and will hopes to get caught up so she can return to another school in the fall.
