Family speaks out after man and unborn twins die in wrong-way crash in St. Johns County

ELKTON, Fla. —

The family of two couples involved in a fatal crash after Christmas are speaking out.

“It’s hard to mourn when you see your daughter is making progress,” Elizabeth and Dave Beachy said.

The Beachys’ lives changed forever after Christmas when their son Jimmy, his new wife, along with the Beachys’ daughter Raquel and her family, were hit head-on by a wrong way driver, according to Florida Highway Patrol.

Jimmy did not survive.

“Whenever you saw him he had that smile and he’d just got married, and they were so happy. Now she’s a widow and I don’t have my son because of a choice this guy made that night,” Elizabeth Beachy said.

While Jimmy’s sister, Raquel, survived the crash, her unborn twins did not.

“We have highs and lows, our daughter’s alive,” Dave Beachy explained.

“She was eight months pregnant with twins, we lost both twins.”

While Raquel fights for her life, and the Beachys bury a son and two unborn grandchildren, they have a message for the wrong-way driver:

“You’ve taken so much from us... Call somebody to pick you up if you’re drinking and driving... because you do change people’s lives,” Elizabeth Beachy said.

And a message Raquel wrote from her hospital bed to her parents: “God’s Plan,” gives the Beachys faith to keep moving foward.

“We’re happy that those that did make it through are doing better as well,” Dave Beachy said, with Elizabeth Beachy adding, “they saved my daughter’s life and I don’t’ know what I would’ve done if I lost both my kids but they saved my daughter’s life and she still has a big fight to go through.”

GoFundMe accounts have been set up for the families.
