After Toys R Us closes it's doors for good Friday, there will be two vacant storefronts next to each other.
But Action News Jax learned that one of the empty storefronts could soon have a new tenant.
For about eight months, since it moved across the street, the Best Buy store has sat empty.
“It’s been bland for a while,” shopper Jennifer Goss said.
But now Action News Jax is learning that a new tenant is aggressively working on a lease.
“I’d like to know what it is, but I’m sure it would be interesting to look at,” shopper Deepak Scindia said.
While the property manager wouldn’t name the strong prospect that could be occupying the over 30,000 square-foot space, John Mohr, who works in commercial sales for Watson Realty Corp. had an idea.
“Probably going to be a big-box store.
They could modify it, but the store is built out as a distribution facility,” Mohr said.
He said the Town Center is mixed-use development, which leaves the door open for several potential options.
“Allows retail, office, condos, that type of thing,” Mohr said.
As Toys R Us closes its doors for good, the property manager said there are plans on subdividing the 70,000-square-foot space.
“We are upset that Toys R Us is no longer available for the kids.
Hopefully, they will come up with a better store, I guess,” shopper Giselle Almeida said.
Shoppers told Action News Jax what they would like to see occupy the space. “I hope it will be something fun and exciting that’s family friendly,” Goss said.
The property manager said there are no immediate tenants for the Toys R Us space.
