Two dozen cars burglarized at Lakeside Apartments

Nearly 25 cars were broken into at an apartment complex on the southside Saturday night or Sunday morning.

“My entire window was broken into, I started crying, called the cops,” said Constanza Keith.

Keith said she spent the night at a friend’s house at the Lake Side Apartments. When she got ready to go to work she saw her windows were smashed.

Residents tell Action News Jax nearly 25 other cars were broken into in the apartment complex.

Cindy Gounder said Jacksonville Sheriff's Office deputes knocked on her door around 7 a.m. to let her know her car had also been burglarized.

“I could see that somebody opened the glove box, of course, and I just keep napkins and my manual and some bags and stuff, but all that was pulled out onto my seat," said Gounder.

Gounder told Action News Jax whoever broke into her car only took two CDs.

Meanwhile Keith said whoever broke into her car left her wallet but stole $80.

Carol Trott has lived at Lakeside Apartment for six years and parks her car near her building.

Trott’s car didn’t get broken into, but she noticed the cars parked farther away. where there is little to no street lights, were targeted.

“I’ve noticed it's dark back here lately and so I think better lighting might help you know just to keep us safe back here,” she said.
