Valor and Virtue academies to shut down in less than three weeks

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Valor and Virtue academies will shut down in less than three weeks.

The board of the four single-gender charter schools, for middle and high school, voted to close Wednesday because they no longer had the funding to continue.

The schools were run by Profectus Learning Systems.

In a statement, Profectus' board chair said in part:

"Families will be able to participate in an open-enrollment session in December, during which they may choose to enroll their children in schools throughout the city, including the district's two single-gender schools."

There are about 360 students between the Valor and Virtue academies four campuses that are impacted by the closure.

The schools will close Dec. 21.
