NASSAU COUNTY, Fla. — Deputies with the Nassau County Sheriff’s Office assisted state law enforcement in apprehending an 18-year-old wanted on an aggravated robbery charge on Sept. 17. Zion Rackley was taken into custody on an island east of Interstate 95 near the Georgia state line after a coordinated search.
The operation began as a joint effort with the Florida Department of Agriculture’s Office of Agricultural Law Enforcement to track Rackley in a wooded area near the Georgia border.
The sheriff’s office Drone Unit first spotted Rackley hiding on the island. Following the location report, the Marine Unit deployed an airboat to transport the apprehension team, including K9 Leo, across the water to the island.
Deputies moved toward Rackley using real-time information provided by drone operators. When Rackley failed to comply with officer commands, handlers instructed Leo to apprehend him. Rackley was taken into custody and turned over to the Office of Agricultural Law Enforcement without further incident.
The capture marked Leo’s first apprehension since joining the Nassau County Sheriff’s Office less than a year ago. Body-worn camera video recorded the multi-unit operation and arrest.
