YULEE, Fla. — The National Transportation Safety Board released its preliminary report of a plane crash that killed a veteran pilot in Yulee in July.
The single-engine plane crashed in a swamp, killing pilot Charlie Yeagle.
A witness told investigators he saw the plane takeoff from the Flying-A-Ranch Airport, and shortly after takeoff he noted the "engine rpm's were low but steady." The witness said, at about 200 feet above ground, the plane banked left, stalled and fell out of view.
The plane crashed 0.2 nautical miles from the runway.
Investigators said the plane had about three-quarters of a tank of fuel and the auxiliary tank was nearly empty.
