Woman accused of stealing from churchgoers

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help finding a woman they say stole purses, credit cards and checks after breaking into cars.

Police say she stole from families at New Life Christian Fellowship off Hodges Boulevard next to providence school on the Southside.

Police say she drove down the coast cashing the checks she stole.

Action News Jax Crime and Safety Expert Ken Jefferson said there is security video of the crime happening, but it is too blurry to use as evidence.

But there are crystal clear security pictures showing one suspect allegedly cashing in at banks from Jacksonville to Daytona.

JSO said the woman in the pictures taken from surveillance cameras at several drive-thru teller windows is wanted for ripping off New Life Christian Fellowship.

Police are looking for her after several car break-ins at Providence School and New Life Christian Fellowship on December 8.

“It was a big event that particular night, it had over 1,000 cars and a lot of people,” said Jefferson, who sits on the board at Providence School.

“Five cars were burglarized, one car for sure had the window smashed, where the purse was laying on the seat,” Jefferson said.

Investigators say this woman cashed the stolen checks the just one day after stealing them in December.

“I’m certain this isn’t the person’s first time, there could be other cases,” Jefferson said.

We wondered how the suspect could cash the checks without a matching ID.

Jefferson said the suspect's method of cashing in points to something more sophisticated about the criminal scheme.

“When you have thieves like this, they go back match IDs that look similar to them to cash checks or use credit cards, they’re very clever at what they do,” Jefferson said.

Jeffferson said this person is most likely one of several people involved in this crime.

He also said there’s a possibility this woman purchased the stolen items from the actual thieves who hit this school.
