One killed in small plane crash in Yulee

YULEE, Fla. — One person has been killed in a plane crash in Yulee.

The Nassau County Sheriff's Office said the plane crashed in the marsh near Miner Road, just south of A1A and U.S. 17.

The Sheriff's Office identified the victim as 65-year-old Charlie Yeagle, a resident of the Flying-A-Ranch Airport.

FAA spokesperson Kathleen Bergen told Action News the single-engine plane took off from the private airport before going down at 10:10 a.m. in a swampy area along Lofton Creek.

The wreckage of the plane is still in the water, according to the Sheriff's Office.

Crews are waiting for the National Transportation Safety Board to arrive.

Yeagle was the only person on board.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.

Undersheriff George Lueders said it appeared the plane lost power.

Investigators called Yeagle an experienced pilot and flight instructor.
