SPANISH FORT, Ala. — A teen visiting his grandmother noticed a fire across the street and kicked in the front door Friday to save a sleeping 83-year-old man, officials said.
"I had to bust open the screen door to get to the white door, so by the time I got there I was still calling his name," Demorrist Shaw, 18, told WPMI on Saturday. "I guess he heard the glass break. He was calling. I was like, 'Mr. Billy!' and he heard me, so that's when I kicked the door down and he came through the door."
The neighbor was taken to a hospital for evaluation, WPMI reported. His condition was not immediately known.
