The woman, who has not been identified, started having complications during the flight Saturday, military officials said, according to The Associated Press.

“The aircraft commander decided to descend in altitude to increase air pressure in the aircraft, which helped stabilize and save the mother’s life.”

The woman had issues with low blood pressure, NBC News reported.

When the plane landed at Ramstein Air Base in Germany, U.S. medical personnel from the 86th Medical Group came on board and delivered the baby while the mother was still in the cargo hold, NBC News reported.

“The baby girl and mother were transported to a nearby medical facility and are in good condition,” officials said.

Thousands of people, including American citizens, have been evacuated from Kabul since the Taliban took control of the country, USA Today reported.
