An east Tennessee man is accused of striking his wife with a loaf of bread during a domestic dispute, according to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.

Thomas Matthew Grande, 53, of Sweetwater, was charged with DUI, reckless driving, aggravated assault and two traffic violations, according to the sheriff’s office.

Deputies were called to a domestic dispute on Feb. 5 at about 11 p.m. EST, The Advocate & Democrat of Madisonville reported.

Deputy Dakota Rinehart began following Grande after he saw the man back down a long driveway in an SUV and run off the gravel, and then cross the centerline of the highway as he drove, the newspaper reported.

According to the deputy, Grande admitted he had been drinking, and when the man failed sobriety tests he was arrested, the Advocate & Democrat reported.

Grande’s wife, Erica Grande, told Monroe County Sheriff’s Sgt. Tillman Steele that she had gotten into an argument with her husband, who claimed she was cheating on him, the newspaper reported.

Erica Grande said when the couple got home, her husband hit her in the face with a loaf of bread, the Advocate & Democrat reported. As she was trying to leave, the woman said Thomas Grande then hit her with a board, according to the newspaper.
