CUMBERLAND, Ind. — You could say they got their goat: officers with an Indiana police department managed to wrangle a loose goat that was running through a yard, but catching the animal was a struggle.
Video shared by the Cumberland Police Department on its Facebook page shows the wild pursuit. In the post, police said they were called to a report of a possibly injured goat in the backyard of a home. The homeowner did not know whom the goat belonged to.
OFFICERS DETAIN GOAT FOR QUESTIONING! This morning, Officers were alerted to a possibly injured goat in between some homes along Woodlark Drive. Captain Crooke II arrived and found the goat in the back yard of a residence. The goat did not belong to the resident and it was unknown who the animal belonged to. Captain Crooke and Marion County Animal Care & Control Officer believed the goat to be in need of medical assistance and had to wrangle him so that he could be cared for and find out where he belongs. This video shows Captain Crooke and Animal Care & Control, very skillfully, detaining the goat. THANKFULLY, the goat was not injured and just happened to be lost. He is being well fed and made comfortable until proper ownership can be found. If you know where the goat belongs, please contact us or Marion County Animal Care & Control. A police officer and Marion County Animal Control worked together to wrangle the goat, but the video shared shows the pair had their work cut out for them, as the goat darted and dashed around the two humans.
Eventually, the officers cornered the goat, put a sheet over it and subdued it, although officers told WXIN that despite questioning, the goat refused to divulge any information about where it came from.
Officers told WTHR that they were able to determine the goat was not hurt, just lost. Marion County Animal Control is caring for the goat while officers work to track down its owner.
