MIDDLEBURG, Fla. - Update August 18, 4:30 p.m.: A GoFundMe campaign has been set up for Maegan Howsare's family to cover funeral expenses.

    Original story:

Loved ones of a teen hit and killed by a car in Clay County came together Thursday night to honor her memory.

Maegan Howsare,18, had just started her senior year at Middleburg High School.

"(I feel) empty because I want her," said her father, Tim Howsare. "I want her by me. This is us. It's something I wouldn't even imagine, and I wouldn't imagine for any other person with a child."

Family said Wednesday around 9:30 p.m., Maegan Howsare was leaving work at Popeyes. She was crossing Blanding Boulevard to meet her ride at the RaceTrac gas station.

That's when they said she was hit by a passing car, robbing 12-year-old Emma of her big sister.

"Seeing her in that hospital bed is probably the hardest thing that I've ever had to deal with in my life," Emma said.

Her family hopes more answers come out about this crash and the investigation.
