Action News Jax talks to RNC Host Committee member about prep for convention

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Amid concerns about the number of positive cases of COVID-19 in Duval County, in just over 6 weeks, the Republican National Committee still plans to host their convention in Jacksonville.

Action News Jax Courtney Cole spoke to Congressman Michael Waltz, one of the Host Committee members, about the safety measures being taken, fundraising, and the opposition the RNC locally. Hear what he had to stay, on FOX30 Action News Jax at 4 and CBS47 Action News Jax at 6.

Waltz told Action News Jax COVID-19 testing will be in place for every convention-goer, every delegate, vendors, and the media, every day of the convention.

Waltz said there will also be masks, handwashing stations and social distancing, “as much as it makes sense.”

When Cole asked Waltz who will pay for this mass COVID-19 testing, he says “they’re still working through the details of the plan.”

When Cole asked which local hospitals the RNC plans to work with on mass testing, Waltz said: “Don’t know, those conversations are ongoing. There are a number of them in place. I don’t want to get ahead of those agreements, those partnerships.”
