Girl Scout camps sticking with virtual for the summer due to COVID-19

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Girl Scouts of Gateway Council (GSGC) will be operating online due to COVID-19 restrictions. It will also open enrollment to non-member girls.

The reimagined summer camp will offer 12 week-long programs to engage girls in at-home activities.

Each themed week will give girls the opportunity to earn badges and gain experience around topics like journalism, outdoors, art, photography, theater, computer programming, STEM and more.

Action News Jax first told you Friday about the beginning of the enrollment period for in-person City of Jacksonville summer camps.

On Tuesday, a city spokesperson said all camps are now filled.

The camps were free but limited to 25 kids per program.Background on girl scouts of gateway council: Girl Scouts of Gateway Council serves approximately 20,000 members -- nearly 14,000 girls in grades K-12 and more than 6,000 adults in North Florida.

The 35 counties include: Alachua, Baker, Bay, Bradford, Calhoun, Clay, Columbia, Dixie, Duval, Escambia, Flagler, Franklin, Gadsden, Gilchrist, Gulf, Hamilton, Holmes, Jackson, Jefferson, Lafayette, Leon, Levy, Liberty, Madison, Nassau, Okaloosa, Putnam, Santa Rosa, St. Johns, Suwannee, Taylor, Union, Wakulla, Walton and Washington.
