Navy sailors return home from deployment extended by pandemic

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — 19 Navy Sailors in the VP 45 ‘Pelicans’ Patrol Squadron returned to Naval Air Station Jacksonville on Thursday.

VP 45′s deployment was extended from six months to eight, due to travel restrictions.

The squadron was deployed to US 7th Fleet Area of responsibility, assumed command out of Kadena Air Base, Japan, and a permanent detachment to Clark Air Base, Philippines.

The squadron conducted maritime intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance (ISR), theater security cooperation (TSC), and anti-submarine warfare (ASW) missions.
