JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A fatal crash on I-295 blocked the southbound lanes at Merrill Road for hours in Jacksonville Wednesday morning.
The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said in a news conference that one person is dead after the crash involving four cars, including a JSO patrol car. The identity of the person killed has not been released at this time.
According to JSO, a car in the northbound lanes of I-295 crossed over into the southbound lanes.
The Sheriff’s Office said Officer Eric Kilis and another person were taken to the hospital after being seriously hurt, but they are expected to be OK.
The crash remains under investigation.
