Jacksonville man killed in fiery crash of semis in Volusia County early Thursday morning

One semi was stopped off I-95 south in Ormond Beach after striking a deer; the other rear-ended it - igniting a fire

ORMOND BEACH, Fla. — A Jacksonville man driving a semi south on I-95 in Volusia County died after a crash with another tractor trailer in the early-morning hours Thursday.

Florida Highway Patrol said the 57-year-old man, whom they did not identify, disabled his truck by striking a deer. The driver turned on the truck’s hazards and occupied the outside lane.

That when a second semi driven by a 59-year-old Cape Canaveral man struck the disabled truck from behind, causing it to erupt in flames.

The driver of the disabled vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene. The second driver was not transported to the hospital.

The crash remains under investigation, police said.
