Man faces multiple charges following SWAT standoff in Glynn County

GLYNN COUNTY, Ga. — A man was arrested early Saturday morning after barricading himself inside an RV following a domestic assault in Glynn County, according to the police department.

GCPD says Melvin Mendez faces multiple charges after a SWAT team brought the standoff to an end at a residence on Willow Road.

Glynn County patrol officers responded at approximately 1 a.m. to a report of an active domestic disturbance at 152 Willow Road. Upon arriving at the scene, officers heard breaking glass and spotted Mendez on the property.

The police department said when officers ordered Mendez to stop, he refused to obey commands and ran into an RV located on the property, barricading himself inside.

GCPD officers determined that Mendez had assaulted a victim located at the scene. The Glynn County Police Department SWAT team responded to the location and took Mendez into custody without further incident.

Following his arrest, Mendez was taken to the Police Department for an interview. Authorities subsequently charged him with family violence aggravated assault, family violence criminal trespass and obstruction of a law enforcement officer before booking him into the Glynn County Detention Center.
