JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office is investigating a shooting in Brentwood that left a man in critical condition Thursday afternoon. A man in his mid-40s suffered multiple gunshot wounds to his head and arm at 5:07 p.m. on West 39th Street, off North Pearl Street.
The Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department transported the victim to the hospital, where he remained unconscious and unable to speak with investigators. Authorities confirmed the suspect remains at large and police believe the shooting was an isolated incident that does not appear to be gang-related.
An initial investigation by sheriff’s officers found that the victim was involved in an argument with an unknown suspect earlier in the day.
Later, as the victim was leaving a local business, the suspect approached and shot him several times. Police said it is unclear whether the victim and the suspect knew each other prior to the shooting.
