JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Republican State Rep. Wyman Duggan has officially filed paperwork to run for mayor of Jacksonville. He joins the contest to challenge current Mayor Donna Deegan, who is seeking a second term in the March election.
Duggan finalized his candidate registration at the Supervisor of Elections Office, launching a platform focused on affordability and local government spending. He said he’d decrease city expenditures, cut property tax rates and shift municipal priorities away from a primary focus on downtown development.
During his initial address to voters, Duggan argued that Jacksonville’s unified government structure has faced strain during the Deegan administration. He explicitly criticized recent disputes and issues involving independent municipal agencies, including the Jacksonville Transportation Authority, the Jacksonville Housing Authority, the Jacksonville Electric Authority and the Jacksonville Aviation Authority.
