Christmas light show brightens up the neighborhood, even in April

ST. JOHNS, FLA. — Things are a little brighter in a Julington Creek neighborhood where Taylor Mitchell is putting on a show with his Christmas lights at the home on Grand Parke Drive.

Mitchell said it started as a fun project to ease people’s boredom and brighten their day.

“Everything is kind of dark right now, you know? Nobody knows what’s going to happen,” Mitchell said. “I hoped that people would kind of be happy about the community that they live in.”

Then it turned personal. Mitchell said he found out his grandmother tested positive for Covid-19 while he was putting up the display. He said she’s in recovery and is doing much better.

Mitchell said he’s been overwhelmed with the response from the community. He said during Christmas, they normally get a handful of cars driving by to check out the lights. He said in the past couple of days, there have been anywhere from 30 to 40 cars.

The lights are synced to music. Normally, Mitchell uses speakers. To practice social distancing, the music is playing on 88.5 FM, so you can listen from your car.

Mitchell keeps the light show running from 7 to 11 p.m.
