Indonesia earthquake: Magnitude 7.3 quake reported off coast

JAKARTA, Indonesia — A magnitude 7.3 earthquake struck off the coast of Indonesia on Tuesday, the U.S. Geological Survey is reporting.

According to the agency, the quake, which occurred shortly before 10:30 a.m. local time, was centered about 70 miles north of Maumere at a depth of 11.5 miles. Two other earthquakes with magnitudes of 5.1 and 5 occurred in the same area within the next few hours, the USGS reported.

Although the earthquake initially triggered a tsunami alert, the warning was later lifted, according to The Associated Press.

At least one person in East Nusa Tenggara province was hurt in the quake, the AP reported. A Selayar Islands school building also was damaged, authorities said.
