JSO: Unlicensed dentist accused of practicing at home

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A local man was arrested Wednesday on charges of practicing dentistry from inside his own home without a license.

56-year-old Jose Santos Vicenty is charged with practicing dentistry without a license. JSO said he was doing it out of the comfort of his own home.

JSO officers took dozens of boxes from his home on Kernan Forest Boulevard, Wednesday morning.

“There were police cars up and down the road and undercover agents and so yeah, it was shocking.“ Douglas Mathis said. He lives down the street from Vicenty. “You never want to see a police presence in your neighborhood for something like this.“

Action News Jax reporter Meghan Moriarty looked into Vicenty’s background. In 2009, he was found guilty by a judge for the same crime. Vicenty served two years in prison. Moriarty did a records search through the Department of Health and it doesn’t appear that Vicenty was ever a licensed dentist.

In Vicinty’s 2009 arrest report, he was claiming to clients that he got his license at the University of Puerto Rico. He also said he performs all procedures, besides root canals. The state of Florida has no record of Vicenty ever being licensed to practice dentistry.
