JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Police said a driver struck and killed a pedestrian on McDuff Ave. South about 9 p.m. Saturday, before leaving the scene in the city’s Lackawanna area.
An elderly black woman was taken to Shands/UF Health but was pronounced dead.
Police said they do not yet have a description of a vehicle or driver, but are hopeful that they will be able to access video footage from nearby businesses once they reopen.
“This person (the driver) could face up to 30 years in prison if we have to track them down,” said Sgt. Robert Hungerford, who urged the driver to turn themself in.
The incident occurred near the intersection with Rexford St. It was the city’s 27 pedestrian fatality of the year, well ahead of the 18 that had occurred by this time in 2025.
