JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A federal court judge sentenced James Elliott Davis, II, 37, of Ponte Vedra Beach to more than seven years in prison for crimes related to a Covid-era scheme involving the sale of personal protective equipment, including masks.
According to a new release, Davis plead guilty plea to bank fraud, wire fraud, and money laundering. As part of his sentence, the court ordered Davis to forfeit more than $6.7 million he received in the scheme.
From March 2018 through 2022, prosecutors said Davis ran a purported medical supply company, Medisale Inc. and enticed individuals and businesses to invest large sums.
He did it by falsely claiming falsely Medisale was making big profits. He said the company was working with hospital CEOs and had contracts to sell large volumes of N95 masks and other PPE.

As part of convincing victim-investors to give him money, Davis showed fraudulent bank statements with large balances, claiming the money was from the sale of PPE.
“Exploiting the fears of individuals and businesses for profit during a national crisis is untenable,” said U.S. Attorney Gregory W. Kehoe said in the news release. “Today’s court judgment sends a clear message that this type of fraudulent behavior will not be tolerated.”

This case was investigated by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation - Office of Inspector General, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, and the Internal Revenue Service – Criminal Investigation.
