ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. — A sheriff’s deputy was arrested overnight following a shooting incident while off-duty, according to the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office.
SJSO was called to a Ponte Vedra home for a domestic disturbance around 9 p.m. Monday, an arrest report stated.
Napolian Staggers, 48, a SJSO sheriff’s deputy, returned to the home possibly under the influence of alcohol, according to the report.
During an argument with a woman Staggers shared the home with over his whereabouts, the sheriff’s office said Staggers hit the woman in the face two to three times, the arrest report stated.

When the woman walked away from Staggers to call a family member, the sheriff’s deputy pulled out a gun and fired a shot toward her, hitting her feet, SJSO said. She suffered a broken toe and is expected to be OK.
She was able to run to a neighbor and called 911, the report stated.
Staggers was arrested and faces a charge of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.
Action News Jax spoke with Staggers last year when he helped a young boy battling cancer get a trip to Disney World.
SJSO told Action News Jax he has had no disciplinary issues previous to this incident, during his SJSO career.
During a first appearance in court on Tuesday morning, Staggers was ordered to surrender his gun to the sheriff’s office and have no contact with the victim.
His bond was set to $25,000.
