ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. — The St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a swimmer in distress at the Crescent Beach ramp around 11 a.m. Saturday.
When police arrived, a woman told authorities that her husband had entered the water to swim 10 minutes prior and had not yet emerged.
A search for the man was conducted, and about five minutes later, several people were at the scene pulling a man from the water about 500 yards north, police said.

The people who pulled him from the water began CPR, and police began coordinating lifesaving procedures.
A deputy took over providing chest compressions until St. Johns County lifeguards and marine fire rescue personnel arrived. The victim, identified as Andrew Miller, was taken to Flagter Hospital, where he died, according to the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office.
Major Crimes was notified and took over the investigation.
