Florida Department of Education wants your input on COVID-19 precautions and schooling

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Florida Department of Education wants your input on coronavirus precautions and schooling.

Some of the recommendations for returning to the classroom includes daily temperature checks, social distancing and requiring health professionals be part of the plan.

Rochelle Brown says having her nine and six-year-old son home all the time can become too much.

“It’s been a little challenging,” Brown said.

That’s because she is also balancing her career to pay the bills.

“With me working during this time, it’s kind of hard to be there,” Brown said.

Many students moved to virtual learning during the middle of March because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Now, the Florida Department of Education has launched a two-minute survey.

The goal is to help them keep students safe while making sure they're also getting a good education.

Action News Jax reporter Jamarlo Phillips asked Rochelle Brown the first question of the survey: “What is your comfort level with students returning to school campuses?”

Brown replied, “I’m comfortable with it because to be honest, from my kids’ perspective, they are ready to go back to school. As long as that we just continue to do the things that we should’ve been doing before, keeping the kids hands washed, just regular routine hand-washing, keeping the building clean.”

While the state hopes students will return to the classroom this fall, Dr. Anthony Fauci, a leading health expert on President Donald Trump’s Coronavirus Task Force gave a warning to senators Tuesday that there will likely be no vaccine by that time.

Brown tells me she plans to fill out the survey tonight.
