ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. — A Duval County man received an eight-year prison sentence Wednesday after his arrest in February for traveling to meet who he thought was a 14-year-old girl for sex.
Aaron Platts was sentenced in St. Johns County after a hearing where he plead no contest to charges of traveling to meet a minor for sex, attempted lewd or lascivious battery sex act, resisting arrest and other offenses.
In addition to the eight-year prison sentence, Platts was ordered to be on sex offender probation for five years following his incarceration and he was designated as a sex offender.
The arrest, conviction and sentence resulted from a St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office undercover investigation in February when an undercover detective portrayed themselves as a 14-year-old girl on a dating website.
Over three days, Platts sent the detective sexually explicit direct messages and a picture in response to the fake profile.
The defendant then drove from Duval County to St. Johns County to meet who he thought was a child. When detectives attempted to arrest him, Platts ignored their commands and placed his hands inside his waistband to try to prevent detectives from handcuffing him.
