JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A 20-year-old man was found guilty Thursday in Duval County Circuit Court in the June 2025 deaths of his father and friend on Baymeadows Road. Larry Baldwin Jr. was 18 when he shot and killed 41-year-old Larry Baldwin Sr., and his friend, 19-year-old Rubisney Giraldo-Mina.
Officers responded at approximately 3:21 a.m. to reports of a shooting at 9550 Baymeadows Road outside a laundromat and smoke shop, a Jacksonville police arrest report states. Multiple 911 calls were placed regarding the incident, including one from Baldwin Jr.
Upon arrival, officers detained Baldwin Jr. and removed a handgun from his front pocket, the report states. Personnel from the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department pronounced both Baldwin Sr. and Giraldo-Mina deceased at the scene.
Baldwin Jr. told investigators during an interview that his father had called him to the laundromat to help repair a broken-down GMC pickup truck. Baldwin Jr. arrived with his friend, Giraldo-Mina, the report states. All three worked on the vehicle for approximately an hour before Baldwin Jr. stated he wanted to go home because he was tired, initiating a verbal argument with his father.
Giraldo-Mina interjected during the dispute, causing the argument to shift between him and Baldwin Jr. Before shooting both men, surveillance video recovered from a neighboring business showed Baldwin Jr. brandishing a handgun with an attached light while walking backward away from Giraldo-Mina.
Baldwin Jr. is scheduled for a status hearing for sentencing Tuesday, according to Duval County Circuit Court records.
